The process is:
An NRI seeking enrolment to visit an Aadhaar enrolment center and submit a requisite form along with valid supporting documents. Enrolment and Update form can also be downloaded from (Enrolment & Update Forms) 

The enrolment operator shall capture the following information during the course of enrolment:

Mandatory Demographic information (Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Address and email)
Optional demographic information (mobile number)
And
Biometric Information (Photo, 10 finger prints, both Iris)
Type of documents presented [valid Indian passport is mandatory as Proof of Identity (PoI)]
Residential Status ( Resided in India for at least 182 days is not applicable for NRI)

After completing the enrolment the operator shall return all the documents along with an acknowledgement slip containing the applicable charges.

Yes. A valid Indian Passport is mandatory as a Proof of Identity (PoI) for NRI applicants. You may choose to give any other Indian Address with a valid supporting Proof of Address (PoA) as per the list of documents acceptable by UIDAI:List of Supporting Document

In case the NRI requires an address other than that mentioned in passport, he has option to submit any valid proof of address document available to resident Indian.

At the time of enrolment, an individual seeking enrolment has option to record DOB In Aadhaar as 'declared' or 'approximate' if no valid proof of birth is available. However to update DOB in Aadhaar,  the  Aadhaar number holder to submit a valid proof of birth document. 

In order to Link Aadhaar with PAN, ideally your demographic details (i.e. Name, Gender and Date of Birth) should match in both the documents.

In case of any minor mismatch in Aadhaar Name provided by taxpayer when compared to the actual data in Aadhaar, One Time Password (Aadhaar OTP) will be sent to the mobile registered with Aadhaar. Taxpayers should ensure that the date of birth and gender in PAN and Aadhaar are exactly same.

In a rare case where Aadhaar name is completely different from name in PAN, then the linking will fail and taxpayer will be prompted to change the name in either Aadhaar or in PAN database.

In-case linking problem still persists you are requested to visit Income Tax official website or call IT department helpline.

Aadhaar details like address can be updated online via the UIDAI Self-Service Update Portal (SSUP) or by visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra with valid documents.

MyAadhaar portal is a login based portal containing an array of Aadhaar related services. An Aadhaar Number holder may visit MyAadhaar by clicking on https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/

An Aadhaar Number holder can login MyAadhaar portal using Aadhaar number and OTP received on registered mobile number.

Few services like QR code scan, Book an Appointment, Order Aadhaar PVC card, Check Enrolment status, Locate Enrolment Center, File a complaint etc. can be accessed without registered mobile number on MyAadhaar portal.

An Aadhaar Number holder can avail all Aadhaar related online services in few clicks using MyAadhaar portal which are categorized on Homepage with relevant icons and FAQ sections.

mAadhaar is mobile based application for smartphones on Android or iOS, whereas myAadhaar is a login based portal where Aadhaar number holder can avail an array of Aadhaar based online services.

The ANH should have a smartphone (Android version 9.0 and above and iOS version 16.0 and above) with internet connectivity.

After downloading the app, the Aadhaar Number Holder (ANH): →Select Language→ Enters their Aadhaar number → Agrees to the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy → Chooses the SIM card → Performs Face Authentication → Gets registered on the app →  Sets a 6-digit PIN to secure access to the app.

Presently, the Aadhaar app offers various services like - Mobile Number Update, Address Update, Biometric lock/unlock, Selective Sharing of Aadhaar Verifiable Credential, check Authentication History, download e-Aadhaar, share Contact Card, Track my request, etc.

ANH is an individual who has been assigned a 12-digit Aadhaar number by UIDAI.

Yes, the Aadhaar app is available in 13 languages in total, English and 12 other Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Odia, Punjabi, Marathi, Urdu, and Assamese.

Scenario 1: If the Aadhaar Number Holder is registered on the Aadhaar app using the same mobile number that is registered with Aadhaar, ANH will be required to verify the new mobile number with OTP, perform Face Authentication, and pay the prescribed charges

 Scenario 2: If the Aadhaar Number Holder is registered on the Aadhaar app using a different mobile number from the one registered with Aadhaar, ANH will be required to verify both the old registered mobile number and the new mobile number with OTP, perform Face Authentication, and pay the prescribed charges

 Scenario 3: If the Aadhaar Number Holder does not have access to the old registered mobile number or has not registered a mobile number earlier, ANH must visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or an authorised Aadhaar enrolment and update centre to update or register their mobile number.

No, the user needs to visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar enrolment and update centre for first time registering mobile number.

Scenario 1: If the Aadhaar Number Holder is registered on the Aadhaar app using the same mobile number:

To update your address in Aadhaar using documents: Open the Aadhaar App, login with your 6-digit PIN, go to Services → Address Update → upload your document (JPG/PNG/PDF), fill in the new address, verify the preview in English and local language, then complete Face Authentication and pay ₹75. Download the acknowledgement slip with your SRN number to track your request.

Scenario 2: If the Aadhaar Number Holder is registered on the Aadhaar app using a different mobile number from the one registered with Aadhaar:

Open the Aadhaar App, login with your 6-digit PIN, go to Services → Address Update → verify with OTP→ upload your document (JPG/PNG/PDF), fill in the new address, verify the preview in English and local language, then complete Face Authentication and pay ₹75. Download the acknowledgement slip with your SRN number to track your request.

Scenario 1: If the Aadhaar Number Holder is registered on the Aadhaar app using the same mobile number:

To update your address using HoF (Head of Family) method: Open Aadhaar App, login with 6-digit PIN, go to Services → Address Update → enter the family member's Aadhaar number, select your relation, complete Face Authentication and pay ₹75. The request goes to your family member (HoF), who must approve it from their Aadhaar App via Services → Family Member Request → enter SRN → Approve.

Scenario 2: If the Aadhaar Number Holder is registered on the Aadhaar app using a different mobile number from the one registered with Aadhaar:

To update your address using HoF (Head of Family) method: Open Aadhaar App, login with 6-digit PIN, go to Services → Address Update → Verify with OTP→ enter the family member's Aadhaar number, select your relation, complete Face Authentication and pay ₹75. The request goes to your family member (HoF), who must approve it from their Aadhaar App via Services → Family Member Request → enter SRN → Approve.

Yes, currently you can update only your mobile number and address directly through the app, without visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Open Aadhaar App, login with your 6-digit PIN, then go to Services → Share Contact and show the QR code to the receiver. The receiver can scan it with any mobile camera to instantly save your name and mobile number in their contacts.

Currently, these updates are not available through the Aadhaar app. For these updates, ANH may visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Aadhaar update and enrolment centre. In the future, these services may be made available in the Aadhaar App in phased manner.

No, the biometric details (Photo, Fingerprints, and Iris) can only be updated by visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or the Aadhaar enrolment and update centre.

The Aadhaar app is an official application developed and managed by UIDAI. The app allows an Aadhaar Number Holder (ANH) to securely share their Aadhaar data with an Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE), as per their consent and choice.

Yes. The Aadhaar app provides a one-click biometric lock/unlock facility, which helps keep Aadhaar data safe and secure.

Yes, any individual with a valid Aadhaar number can create up to five profiles on the Aadhaar app. 

A minor (below 18 years of age) can be added to the Aadhaar app if their relationship with the guardian was established through biometric authentication at the time of Aadhaar enrolment. The minor enters their Aadhaar number, after which the guardian completes face authentication. Once the guardian’s face authentication is successful, the minor’s profile is added to the app. If the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) of the minor has already been completed, the minor will perform face authentication instead of the guardian.

No, the Aadhaar app cannot be used outside India.

Call and SMS permissions are required for SIM-based device binding, similar to payment apps. These permissions help identify the active SIM and securely send or read verification SMS. Camera permission is required for face authentication and verification to access Aadhaar services.

An Aadhaar Verifiable Credential isa digitally signed document issued by the Authority to the Aadhaar Number Holder. It may contain the last 4 digits of the Aadhaar number, demographic data such as name, address, gender, date of birth, and photograph of the Aadhaar Number Holder, and such other information as may be specified by the Authority. These credentials may be shared by the Aadhaar Number Holder, in full or in part, with an OVSE in the manner specified by the Authority, for verifying the demographic information or the photograph of the Aadhaar Number Holder.

Yes. An Aadhaar Number Holder (ANH) can share Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials in full or in part. The shared credentials may include a combination of demographic details, including the photograph, based on the user’s consent.

An Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) is any entity that seeks to undertake offline verification of an Aadhaar Number Holder.

An entity willing to became OVSE may submit the application through https://ovse.uidai.gov.in/. UIDAI may register the entity as a registered OVSE, after verification of the submitted details.

A registered OVSE can perform Aadhaar-based offline identity verification of an Aadhaar Number Holder (ANH) and avail various benefits, such as:

• Instantly perform paperless identity verification
• Save verification output, as permitted
• Use face verification to establish proof of presence

Yes. A registered OVSE may collect and store verifiable credentials shared with the explicit consent of the Aadhaar Number Holder.

No. Offline verification cannot be performed on behalf of another entity.

No, the Aadhaar app does not capture the location.

The app places control over data sharing directly in the hands of the Aadhaar Number Holder. The ANH can choose to share Aadhaar data either full or in part, with whom, and for what purpose.

The app includes face authentication-based onboarding, consent-based selective data sharing, and biometric lock features that protect identity and ensure that only Aadhaar Number Holders (ANH) can access their Aadhaar information.

Any Aadhaar Number Holder who seeks a secure, convenient, and privacy-centric way to verify identity, share Aadhaar information, and manage personal identity data can use the Aadhaar App.

The Aadhaar app cannot be used when developer mode is enabled. This restriction is implemented to ensure data security and user protection.

Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials are machine-readable files that can be shared via WhatsApp or email. They can be read using UIDAI-issued tools and prescribed technical standards

Consent management in the Aadhaar app is governed by the Aadhaar Act and other applicable laws. No identity data is shared without the explicit consent of the Aadhaar Number Holder.

The processing time for mobile number and/or address updates is up to 30 days. Once the update is successfully completed, the revised data is reflected in the Aadhaar app.

QR codes on PVC Aadhaar cards and e-Aadhaar will continue to work and can be scanned easily using the Aadhaar App or Aadhaar QR Code scanner for identity verification.

The QR-based verifiable presentation follows a UIDAI specification and OPENID4VP, but the reading capability is limited to the Aadhaar App, Aadhaar QR Code scanner only.

No SDK is required. The OVSE must follow the QR generation guidelines issued by UIDAI. A registered OVSE may contact UIDAI for any technical support related to QR generation.
